This is an easy hike outside Huaraz, ideal for acclimatization and for enjoying the views of the city and the Cordillera Blanca. The Willkahuain archeological complex dates from 600-900 A.D. It was the imperial phase of the Huari empire. Huari is a city near Ayacucho. The Huari introduced the great walled urban centre, a new concept in urban life.
About 500 meter past Willkahuain is Ichiwillkahuain (Little Willkahuain). The trip to Willkahuain gives you a nice insight into rural life.
From the ruins you can walk to Monterrey and enjoy the thermal baths.
